HEALTH & WATER · 8 DISTRICTS, BANGLADESH · COMPLETED
PLDS Water Aid Program
Deep tube wells that bring safe drinking water to extremely poor families who relied on polluted ponds, lakes and arsenic-affected shallow wells.

About this program
Lack of safe drinking water is a main cause of water-borne disease. In rural Bangladesh, polluted water leads to outbreaks of infectious illness, and water from lakes, ponds and shallow tube wells can also carry heavy metals such as arsenic.
PLDS installed 100 deep tube wells in remote areas of 8 districts. Each well draws water from an aquifer about 1,000 feet underground, so the water is safe for drinking, cooking, washing and other household use. The wells serve 1,500 poor families, about 4,500 people.
Community outcomes
100 deep tube wells installed across 8 districts for 1,500 poor families, benefiting about 4,500 people.
