PLDS Natural Disaster Support

About this program

Bangladesh is a low-lying flood plain with about 700 rivers and tributaries. Heavy monsoon rain, cyclones from the Bay of Bengal, river erosion and flooding are common, and in recent years rising water and salinity have added to the problem.

PLDS monitors the situation in remote areas and sends relief packages to affected villages. The packages include rice, potatoes, drinking water, oral rehydration saline and water purification tablets. After a cyclone, PLDS gave food and financial assistance to 300 families who lost their homes.
